My car kits are pretty basic and only contain some essential equipment. For example, I have already posted about the small car kit in my wife’s car in an older post.
I came across a couple of handy additions to the cars kits in both cars. The first is a set of battery operated flashing hazard beacons or ‘flares’ and the second is a set of strong suction anchors for tying loads down or tying the car boot closed.
Hazard Beacons
This set of Nordstrand Road Emergency Flares are excellent value. You get three individual amber flashing beacons which have multiple settings. They are magnetic, have a hanging bracket or can be placed on the road. Their mechanical strength is high in that you can drive over them and they are fully waterproof. The small zip-up storage bag keeps them together and each one requires 3 x AAA batteries which are not supplied.
Tie-Down Suction Anchors
I bought a set of these Heavy Duty Tie Down Suction Anchors and split them so I have two in each car. You just release the clip, moisten the suction surface, press down and operate the clip. Make sure the tie hook is facing the direction of the rope and tie them together. I don’t carry things on the roof of the car but they will be handy for those times when there is a load sticking out of the back of the car and I need to be able to tie the boot down.
Car Kits are a basic prepping item. I have breakdown emergency cover so I don’t need to carry a huge tool kit. It is just a case of having a few essential or useful items to hand if something goes wrong. These extra items and a length of nylon rope don’t add much bulk or weight but may come in very useful.
