A thread on UK Preppers led me to this great video from CrazyRussianHacker on YouTube. I’ve seen some of his other videos before and he has some great life and survival hacks for everyday items and solutions.  This one shows how to make a fire starter or fire log out of some wax, dryer lint and a toilet roll.

As we discussed in the thread, these are a good alternative to a firelighter. Since dryer lint doesn’t exactly build up quickly you can use cotton wool instead of the dryer lint in the video. The wax slows down the burning and generates more heat.

I’m going to give this a try and see how it compares to a straightforward cotton ball coated in petroleum jelly (Vaseline).
